Description
ALIXIR Paint Remover is an advanced, water-based coating remover formulated for the effective removal of sealers, paints, varnishes, lacquers, stains, graffiti and powder coatings. Its high-penetration formulation enables it to break down multiple layers of coating, working from the substrate upwards to facilitate efficient removal.
Suitable for use on a wide range of substrates including natural stone, wood, timber, brick and fibreglass while maintaining substrate integrity. ALIXIR Paint & Coating Remover is supplied as a thixotropic gel, allowing easy application on horizontal and vertical surfaces. The formulation is water-borne, non-corrosive, low odour and biodegradable.
ALIXIR Paint Remover does not contain restricted solvents such as N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) or Dichloromethane (DCM) and is suitable for both interior and exterior applications.
How
it works
ALIXIR Paint Remover works by penetrating the coating and chemically softening the binder that bonds sealer, paint, varnish, or other finishes to the substrate. Its water-based gel formulation clings to surfaces, allowing the active ingredients to diffuse through multiple layers, swell and break down the polymer structure of the coating, and weaken its adhesion to the surface. As the coating softens and lifts, it can then be easily removed by scraping or washing away
Application Instructions
Always perform a trial application on a small, hidden area first to confirm suitability and dwell time.
Ensure the surface to be stripped is completely dry.
Protect all areas not being treated, especially those made from delicate materials.
Use the product directly from the container; shake well before use.
Do not dilute.
Apply a generous, even coat using a clean brush. (Rollers may be used for light coatings.) Do not brush out.
Allow the product to work for the established exposure time, then apply a second generous coat. (On surfaces with fewer than five layers of paint or varnish a second coat may not be necessary.)
After the product has penetrated the substrate (up to 24 hours), scrape off all residues, leaving the surface as clean as possible.
Rinse with cold water containing a suitable detergent and use a stainless steel scourer. Never use regular steel wool.
If the coating begins delaminating during the first treatment, remove loose material with a scraper and reapply.
For an optimal finish, use the relevant cleaning product from the Alixir range.
For particularly resistant coatings, you may improve performance by extending exposure time. Ensure the surface remains well covered and consider using a plastic sheet to prevent drying out.

Graffiti: 5 minutes – 2 hours
Varnish: 10 – 30 minutes
Paint: 5 – 30 minutes
Two-pack varnish: 15 – 90 minutes
Heavy, multi-layered paint: 45 minutes – 12 hours
Two-pack lacquer: 15 minutes – 12 hours

Equipment Cleaning
Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with water.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store in a dry place, away from frost and heat, in a temperature between 5°C and 30°C. Shelf life is 24 months from the production batch date when kept in the original unopened container.
Recommendations & Curing
Do not apply if rain is expected within dwell time. It is essential to keep the product moist during the dwell period to maintain chemical activity; if the product dries prematurely, the cleaning action will cease. Do not apply during rain or frost, or when surface and air temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C. While safe for most surfaces, always perform a trial on sensitive natural stone to confirm finish. Once clean and dry, treat with ALIXIR Stone Protector for additional protection.
